Default Shortcuts

A complete reference for the current keyboard shortcuts in Volt.

On macOS, use Cmd. On Windows, use Ctrl. Single-letter shortcuts are contextual and stay inactive while you type in an editable field.

General

Go to and create

Press the first key, release it, and then press the second key.

`G`, then `I`	Go to Inbox
`G`, then `C`	Go to Calls
`G`, then `E`	Go to Archived
`C`, then `C`	Create a contact
`C`, then `G`	Create a group

Chat list

These shortcuts apply while the chat list is focused.

Shortcut	Action
`J` / `↓`	Move to the next chat
`K` / `↑`	Move to the previous chat
`Enter`	Open the selected chat
`Esc`	Leave the chat list
`Cmd/Ctrl+↑`	Go to the first chat
`E`	Archive or unarchive the selected chat
`U`	Mark the selected chat as unread
`L`	Place the selected chat in a list

Pressing J, K, or ↓ can also move focus into the chat list when no chat-list item is selected.

Composer

These shortcuts apply while writing in an open chat.

Message browsing

These shortcuts apply while a message is selected.

The current keymap replaces several older modifier-based shortcuts:

Volt shows a short notice when a retired shortcut has a replacement. Some older shortcuts were removed without a replacement and no longer appear in the guide.
