Assign tasks to people in your WhatsApp chats
From personal tasks to team tasks
A few weeks ago, we released tasks in Volt. You could turn any WhatsApp message into a task for yourself and track everything in one place. That was useful, but it only covered half the picture.
When something is someone else's job, WhatsApp gives you no real way to track it. You can mention it in a message, but there's no assignment, no ownership. Things get lost. Things get forgotten.
You can now assign tasks to other people directly inside your WhatsApp chats.
Assigning tasks to people in your WhatsApp chats
Assign a task from any message
Click on any message related to something that needs to get done. Assign it to the person who owns it. That's it.
The other person will see the task on their Volt, already assigned to them. No extra steps, no back-and-forth asking "did you see my message?"
Create tasks manually in groups
You can also create a task for someone from scratch inside any of your groups. Give it a name, pick the person responsible, and optionally set a due date for when it needs to happen.
Where this gets useful
A few examples of how teams are already using collaborative tasks:
- Project management: Assign deliverables to team members from your project group. Everyone sees what's theirs without leaving WhatsApp.
- Customer support: When a client reports an issue in a group, assign it to the person on your team who should handle it. Nothing falls through the cracks.
- Suppliers and vendors: A supplier confirms a delivery date in a group chat. Turn that message into a task for the person on your team who needs to follow up.
- Events and coordination: Planning something with your team in a group? Create tasks with due dates so everyone knows what they own and when it's due.
What's available today and what's coming
Right now, you can assign tasks to people inside your Volt workspace. If your team is on Volt, everyone will see their assigned tasks automatically.
Assigning tasks to people outside your workspace is coming soon. We're working on it.
